I love lighthouses, The Sentinel is my version what a lighthouse is all about, standing on guard thru some of the worst storms and strong seas. As an avid boater the lighthouse has always been a symbol of strength and security, a safe haven. I enjoyed relieving all my boating memories while I designed and made this pendant. I hope this necklace gives the buyer as much joy as it does me. The pendant is on a Sterling Silver .5 mm 20" adjustable Box chain.
Cloisonné is a painstaking artform that requires a lot of patience and talent. I develop my design and then I take fine silver wires and form, bend and manipulate them until they can be fitted together on my design. The pendent is hand fabricated of fine silver. A layer of enamel called Counter Enamel is added to the back of the pendent and fired. A fine layer of clear enamel is fired on the front. The fine silver wires are then placed on the pendent and held in place with a special glue that burns off, this gives me the ability to push the wires into the soft enamel below. Then fine granules of colored glass are layered into the pendent until the desired effect is achieved. The whole process can take anywhere from several hours to days depending on how intricate the design maybe. The results are stunning and worth the time and patience required.
